Rising nine floors on the side of Little Patuxent Parkway to overlook Downtown Columbia, Costello Construction Company’s Little Patuxent Square will provide more than 140,000 square feet of office and retail space and 160 luxury apartments when it opens in phases later this year and early next.
Designed to meet LEED Gold criteria, the building will feature an elaborate curtain wall exterior accented by metal panels, pre-cast concrete, and glass. A five story parking garaged housed under the building will provide a thousand spaces and include charging stations and a special area for Zipcars. The building will also include a green roof partially covered with plants.
Quality Software Services Inc., a Maryland health exchange contractor and part of UnitedHealth’s Optum unit, has signed a lease to become the building’s main commercial tenant, while Howard Bank will open a location at the site. Floor plans for the luxury apartments are currently being finalized for a variety of living options, including studio and one, two, and three bedroom options. The building will open to its commercial tenants in this year; leasing is expected to begin for the luxury apartments June 1st.
The project sits on a 1.1-acre site on the northeast corner of Little Patuxent Parkway and Wincopin Circle, convenient to The Mall on one side and the Lakefront, its restaurants and activities, on the other. Commuters will find the location provides easy access to the region’s metropolitan areas via routes 29 and 95, as well as to Baltimore Washington International Airport. Many will take advantage, though, of the opportunity Little Patuxent Square provides to live, work, and play in the energy and convenience of a revitalizing Downtown Columbia.
